A morning with the future of the plumbing and heating industry!

Thursday 23rd May 2024

Polypipe Building Products are on a mission to get PolyPlumb Enhanced into the hands of the future of the plumbing and heating industry.

The first stop on this mission took place last week at Leeds College of Building.

Adam Pearson, Category Manager – Plastic Plumbing at Polypipe Building Products, and Jerry Whitely, Technical Manager at CIPHE, led two sessions with plumbing students at the college to introduce them to PolyPlumb Enhanced and showcase the product in their workshop.

The two sessions, the first with Level 3 students and the second with Level 1 students, saw Jerry give the students a whistlestop tour of what the CIPHE can do for them, as the begin their careers in the plumbing and heating industry. The CIPHE is the only chartered, professional body for the UK plumbing and heating sectors, helping members be the very best they can be.

Adam’s presentation saw an introduction into how the team at Polypipe Building Products took the original PolyPlumb, which had been on the market for 25 years, and used their innovative knowledge and skills to create PolyPlumb Enhanced. Students engaged by asking questions about the 50-year guarantee, what makes the new fittings ‘enhanced’, and how it would impact their installs in the future.

Then came the fun bit! The students were given a plastic plumbing task and provided with fittings, pipe, and pipe cutters from Polypipe Building Products, which allowed them to use the PolyPlumb Enhanced fittings for themselves to put what they had just been taught in action.

While the students got their heads down and pipe cutters at the ready, Jerry and Adam were on hand to answer any questions the students had and provide some guidance during the task. The level of knowledge and technical ability demonstrated confirmed that the future of the industry is in safe, and skilled, hands.

As Industrial Associate members of CIPHE, Polypipe Building Products shares the same vision as the membership body; to provide access to technical training and support for installers across the UK. Providing students across the UK with training from a manufacturer is one step that we are taking to make this vision a reality.

Of the session, Jerry said:

"It was a pleasure collaborating with Polypipe Building Products during our visit to Leeds College of Building. The students engaged with a plastic plumbing task utilising their free plastic pipe cutter set.  Two groups of students thoroughly engaged with their learning and took away good practice. Thanks to Polypipe Building Products for their support.”

While the 2023/24 academic year is coming to a close, we are already planning many more college visits for the upcoming 2024/25 academic year. Keep an eye on our socials for more information or contact bp.residential@polypipe.com to get in touch about setting up a visit to your college.
